These breadsticks are absolutely to die for. Seriously, I had 6 in one sitting. Isn’t that terrible? So terrible, but so, so good. They are so addicting! Especially accompanied by some pasta and sauce they are sooo good to dip with. The best part about them is that they only require a few simple ingredients you most likely already have on hand! And the dough comes together super fast too, probably about ten minutes or less. The only thing that takes time is the rising, but even that’s not much time at all. About an hour and a half total. If you plan ahead that much time before dinner, you can have these amazingly delicious bread sticks in no time! My family loved them so much and devoured every single one.
They are so fluffy and every bite is like a soft, cheesy, garlicky pillow. I can seriously eat these with every. single. meal. The garlic salt and grated parmesan cheese give the bread so much flavor. If you only have garlic powder, that’s fine too. For my herbs, I make my own blend of italian seasoning made with oregano, basil, marjoram, parsley, and some thyme. I will have the recipe below, or you can use store bought.
To make these, get your dough together. Place in a greased bowl and let rise in a warm place for about an hour or until it has doubled in size. Punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to be approximately 11 x 17″ to fit a rimmed baking sheet. Oil baking sheet with enough olive oil to coat. Once dough is rolled out, fold in half and place on baking sheet, then unfold. I like to fold mine because it makes the transfer much easier and assures my dough will not tear dragging it over. Spread the dough out to fit the baking sheet. Cut the breadsticks 2 inches apart and cut again down the middle of the pan. They should look like this:
Cover tightly with plastic wrap and wait about 30-45 minutes for them to rise again. They should be almost doubled in size and close together. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle garlic salt, italian seasoning and parmesan cheese all over. (I added the cheese after this photo.)
Place in oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until tops just start to golden. Serve warm!
If you want irresistible, better than restaurant style bread sticks at home, you need to make these ASAP! Your family will go nuts over them!
