I have something a little different for you guys today. I am always trying to make better choices with my eating habits because as you guys know, I make mainly dessert recipes for this little old blog so I wanted to switch it up a bit for all of you trying to eat healthier like me! Enter: Protein Berry Smoothie Bowl. Have you ever had a smoothie bowl? It's pretty much just your basic smoothie, but made with less liquid so you can eat it with a spoon. The toppings are the best part! You can get so creative with your toppings and add whatever your favorites are. I chose to use sliced strawberries, sliced bananas, chia seeds and sliced almonds. Some other options are blueberries, raspberries, granola - basically anything you can think up! To me, smoothies aren't a "meal" because they don't fill me up. I feel like with a smoothie bowl, between the protein you pack inside and all of the toppings you pile on top, it makes them so much more filling!
In my smoothies and smoothie bowls, I like to add things that can really kick up the nutrition, like a really great protein powder. In this smoothie bowl, I used Vega Essentials Shake in vanilla. What I like about this particular protein powder is that it's made from real, whole food ingredients that we can feel good about putting into our bodies! With 25% daily intake of food-based vitamins and minerals, 20 grams of plant-based protein, 3 servings of greens, plus fiber and Omega-3s, you really can't get any better than this stuff.
Aren't smoothie bowls just so pretty?! I love how the top gets decorated pretty in fresh fruit and other healthy toppings because I don't know about you, but I just feel like pretty food tastes better. Am I right? Like, coffee is okay in a regular old mug, but if it's in your favorite bright and cheery mug, doesn't it just make your day even better? I don't know. Maybe it's just me. #crazylady

Protein Berry Smoothie Bowl
Ingredients
*Smoothie Bowl*
- 2 cups frozen mixed berries (I used a mixture of strawberries, blueberries and cherries)
- 1 scoop Vega Essentials Shake - vanilla
- 1 ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 teaspoon honey
*Toppings:*
- 4-5 sliced strawberries optional
- 1 sliced banana optional
- 2 tbs sliced almonds optional
- 1 -2 tbs chia seeds optional
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a bowl and decorate the top with the toppings of your choice.
