Recipe FAQs
I typically use either Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, often even a mixture of the two. Granny Smith apples are tart and hold up to baking well. The tartness balances out the sweetness of desserts nicely. Honeycrisp apples are sweet and also hold up well during baking. I have also used Jonagold, Fuji and Gala apples in baking with great success.
Instead of using yeast, quick breads get their leavening from use of baking powder or baking soda. There is no rising involved in quick breads, you just mix up the batter and bake. They are very "quick," hence the name! 🙂
Yup! Freeze completely cool apple bread either in individual slices or the whole loaf by wrapping tightly in plastic wrap and placing in a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in refrigerator overnight.
Apple streusel bread will stay fresh for up to 5 days stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
