Ingredients Needed for Apple Streusel Bread

This apple streusel bread comes together very quickly and uses ingredients you probably already have on hand. Going apple picking this Fall? Let's use up those apples!

    • Applesauce: This gives the bread an extra punch of apple flavor while also keeping the bread extremely moist and
    • Apples: Chopped into small chunks so they bake evenly.
    • Cinnamon + Sugar: A mixture of cinnamon and granulated sugar are used for the cinnamon swirl in the center.
    • Old fashioned rolled oats: Using oats in the topping gives it such a nice chew and extra tasty element.

See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and easy-to-follow instructions.

    Recipe FAQs

What apples are best for baking?

I typically use either Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, often even a mixture of the two. Granny Smith apples are tart and hold up to baking well. The tartness balances out the sweetness of desserts nicely. Honeycrisp apples are sweet and also hold up well during baking. I have also used Jonagold, Fuji and Gala apples in baking with great success.

Why is this called a quick bread?

Instead of using yeast, quick breads get their leavening from use of baking powder or baking soda. There is no rising involved in quick breads, you just mix up the batter and bake. They are very "quick," hence the name! 🙂

    Can you freeze apple bread?

Yup! Freeze completely cool apple bread either in individual slices or the whole loaf by wrapping tightly in plastic wrap and placing in a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in refrigerator overnight.

How do I store this apple loaf cake?

Apple streusel bread will stay fresh for up to 5 days stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
