How to make apple bread
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9x5 loaf pan.
- Whisk all dry ingredients together in a large bowl and make a well in the center.
- Add eggs, vanilla, applesauce, oil and milk into the center. Beat until combined. Fold in chopped apples by hand.
- Stir together the cinnamon and sugar for the filling.
- In another bowl, whisk oats, flour, brown sugar and cinnamon. Cut in butter until evenly distributed.

- Bake for 50-60 minutes OR until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out only with a few moist crumbs.
I typically use either Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, often even a mixture of the two. Granny Smith apples are tart and hold up to baking well. The tartness balances out the sweetness of desserts nicely. Honeycrisp apples are sweet and also hold up well during baking. I have also used Jonagold, Fuji and Gala apples in baking with great success.
Instead of using yeast, quick breads get their leavening from use of baking powder or baking soda. There is no rising involved in quick breads, you just mix up the batter and bake. They are very "quick," hence the name! 🙂
Yup! Freeze completely cool apple bread either in individual slices or the whole loaf by wrapping tightly in plastic wrap and placing in a freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in refrigerator overnight.
