The only recipe you'll ever need for soft, chewy and delicious rice krispie treats every single time!

Perfect Rice Krispie Treats - Sprinkle Some Sugar

Ever since I posted these rice krispie treats {12.6.2014}, they have become one of my most popular recipes that is still going strong today! I finally got around to updating the photos so I am sharing this post again so you can see these hunks of deliciousness in your face one more time.

Perfect Rice Krispie Treats - Sprinkle Some SugarI know this recipe might seem like a no brainer to some of you. Like, duh, rice krispie treats. Basic. Easy. Simple. Yeah, and you're sorta right. But me being the rice krispie treat snob that I am, I have my own way of making them that makes them soft and delicious every single time. I'm sure most of you can agree with me that there is nothing worse than a dry as a bone krispie treat. Ya know, the kind that scrape the roof of your mouth. Wellll, my friends. Never fear those again after trying these!

Perfect Rice Krispie Treats - Sprinkle Some Sugar

The trick? Folding in more marshmallows while adding the cereal. In addition to the melty marshmallows in the first step, adding some in when you stir in the cereal creates amazing hunks of marshmallow all throughout each bar, making them even softer and chewier. The key to chewy krispie treats is lots of marshmallows. Not too much though, or the bars will fall apart and be too gooey and almost soggy. But, just enough and you'll get the most perfect rice krispie treats that hold together and stay soft for days and days.

It is seriously SO hard to walk past this pan in the kitchen without stealing a little piece every single time. Try it, I dare ya!

    Perfect Rice Krispie Treats

    PRINT RECIPE
    Servings 12 -16 bars

    Ingredients

    • ½ cup unsalted butter
    • 9 cups + 3 ½ cups mini marshmallows divided ( you'll need two 16 oz bags)
    • 8 ½ cups Rice Krispie Cereal

    Instructions

    • Line a 9x13 pan with aluminum foil and spray well with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
    • (For ease, you can measure out all ingredients first before beginning.)
    • In a large pot, melt butter on medium-low heat. Add marshmallows and heat, stirring frequently, until almost all the way melted but not quite. Take mixture off heat and stir in cereal until coated. Add remaining 3 ½ cups marshmallows, folding very quickly so the marshmallows don't melt.
    • Pour mixture into prepared pan and press down evenly. (I use the back of a rubber spatula or a piece of aluminum foil sprayed with cooking spray.) Press mixture down firm enough that the bars will hold together but not too firm or they will be too solid when they come to room temperature. Allow bars to cool completely before cutting into squares.
    • Perfect Rice Krispie Treats will stay soft and fresh for 6-7 days or longer stored covered or in an airtight container.

I've never made these before. Dying to try today! (almost full term pregnant here lol) what do you mean by folding in the extra marshmellows before they melt?

Haha, well you're going to love them!! What I mean by that is, you only stir the 3 1/2 cups of marshmallows in just enough to get them evenly distributed throughout the mixture and then remove from heat immediately because you don't want them to melt. By doing this, it creates hunks of soft marshmallows in the rice krispie treats! Hope this helps! If you have any other questions, let me know. 🙂

The recipe states 12-16 bars but if you cut them smaller, you could definitely have much more than that!
